“When I approach a child, he inspires in me two sentiments — tenderness for what he is and respect for what he may become.”
Louis Pasteur
Childhood is a period of discovery and growth, a time for children to get to know themselves and see how they fit into their world. How each child approaches this can vary based on their circumstances, temperament, and unique traits. For some children, this can seem like a seamless transition into adolescence and adulthood, while for others it can be daunting, filled with big emotions, and progress in fits and starts. In a world of growing demands and expectations, it’s understandable that some children and parents feel overwhelmed by this transformative process. If you or your child are struggling, child therapy can help ease tensions and put your child back onto a path of healthy development.
How I work with children
As a child and teen therapist, I approach each individual with the belief they have the innate potential to grow and thrive, and I work from a place of curiosity and warmth to foster this. What therapy looks like and how it progresses depends on each individual child and their unique needs, but I believe a playful and trusting partnership is key to facilitating growth and change. Some of this work may involve supporting self-regulation while other parts may include identifying values and setting goals. In every therapy process, I aim to provide children with a safe space and relationship to test out who they are and how they want to be, which can increase confidence and self-worth and reduce symptoms associated with anxiety, depression, and other psychological difficulties.
About my experience
I have extensive experience working with pre-adolescents and teen clients, both in private practice and school-based settings. I currently work at the esteemed North Star Families family therapy practice, where I specialize in supporting pre-adolescent and teen boys who struggle with self-worth and relationship issues, anxiety, depression, and neurodivergent considerations like autism and ADHD. Before North Star Families, I worked at Burbank High School’s Care Center, where I provided crisis management services and group therapy to teens experiencing bullying, identity and family issues, peer-to-peer challenges, LGBTQ+ concerns, and trauma. In all my work settings, I operate with the belief children are good, resilient, and worthy of my respect, and I've found that a relationship that conveys this can enhance a child's sense of self-worth and ability to adapt, grow, and thrive.
If your child is struggling or needs support in feeling safe and confident in themselves, it would be my honor to help them uncover their resiliency, creativity, and strength.
